Build, integrate, test, iterate

The historic development record shows the practical sequence behind UFB’s prototypes: materials arrived, components were prepared, digital and physical prototyping were combined and the resulting systems were assembled for real-world use.

Rapid prototyping and 3D-based development shortened the path between an engineering idea and a physical component. The shipyard then provided the environment for integration into complete maritime systems.

Why physical capability mattered

Autonomous maritime technology cannot be validated as software alone. Sensors, computing, energy systems, vessel structure, electrical systems and mechanical integration have to operate together under real environmental conditions.

UFB’s physical development environment therefore formed part of the company’s engineering asset base: practical build experience, integration knowledge, rapid iteration and the ability to create demonstrators suitable for real-world tests.
